Your air conditioner has had a lot of work to do this summer and we still have some more heat coming. Just because the date on the calendar has moved over to fall doesn’t mean you’re done with your AC for the season. Staying up with annual AC maintenance, while also following a handful of other tricks, can help you maintain your air conditioner while keeping your home comfy too.
Clean Around Your Outdoor Unit
Debris can build up around your outside unit, specifically during the fall. When the time arrives to rake up the leaves in your yard, be sure to rake up the leaves and debris around your air conditioner. Debris can hinder air flow, causing your system to work harder and wear down quicker. We want your air conditioner to last as long as possible.
Raise the Temperature on Your Thermostat
Set your thermostat at the highest temperature you can while still being cozy. Whenever possible, take advantage of other cooling methods such as fans. The lower you set your
thermostat, the harder your system will have to work to attain that temperature. You may think turning your unit off completely will save on energy and help your system, but that just creates more ground for it to make up when you switch it back on. It will have to work harder for a longer amount of time, which is another thing that could lead to premature system failure.
